Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in veterinary medicine
– regeneration and treatment

Modern regeneration technology

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are highly specialised cells capable of self-renewal and differentiation into cartilage, bone, muscle or fat cells. In veterinary medicine, they form the basis of modern biological therapies that support the natural regenerative processes of the animal organism.

The MSC technology used by Sanford Biotech is based on GMP and GLP quality standards, which guarantee biological purity and safety of therapy.

Sources and properties of MSCs

  • MSCs are most commonly obtained from:
  • adipose tissue (AD-MSCs) – the most commonly used source, rich in cells with high regenerative potential,
  • umbilical cord/Warton's jelly (UC-MSCs).

These cells secrete growth factors and cytokines, which:

  • stimulate the proliferation and differentiation of target cells,
  • support angiogenesis and tissue regeneration,
  • inhibit inflammatory responses and modulate the immune system.

The use of MSC in veterinary medicine:

  • Orthopaedics / regeneration of the musculoskeletal system

Mesenchymal stem cells are highly effective in the treatment of:

  • osteoarthritis (*osteoarthrosis*),
  • articular cartilage damage,
  • ligament injuries,
  • hip dysplasia.

After intra-articular or peri-articular administration, MSCs reduce inflammation, stimulate cartilage regeneration, and improve joint function, restoring mobility in animals.

  • Neurology and nervous system disorders

Research conducted by Sanford Biotech and partner centres has confirmed that MSCs and their derivatives have neuroprotective effects and support nerve fibre regeneration in neurodegenerative and post-traumatic diseases.

  • Dermatology and autoimmune diseases

MSC are also used in the treatment of chronic skin inflammations, wounds and ulcers, as well as autoimmune diseases and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), where these cells modulate excessive immune responses.

Advantages of MSC therapy

  • autologous biological material – minimal risk of rejection,
  • anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects,
  • improvement of tissue function without the need for surgical intervention,
  • clinical safety confirmed by research.

Research and scientific publications

MSC Sanford Biotech's technology is based on many years of research conducted in collaboration with research centres in Poland, Germany and the USA.

Summary

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are the cornerstone of modern regenerative medicine in veterinary medicine. Thanks to their regenerative capabilities, safety and proven efficacy, MSC therapies are opening a new chapter in the treatment of injuries, degenerative and inflammatory diseases in animals.
